Tasting notes

Nose

Soft and slightly ashy, with aromas of campfire smoke, ginger biscuits, coffee grounds and smoked meats, accompanied by a subtle freshness of nettle.

Palate

Layers of hazelnut, smoked bacon and treacle toffee, mixed with toasted oats, peaty smoke and sweet liquorice, enhanced by hints of lemon zest.

FInish

Nutty and smoky, with notes of coffee cake, peppers, toasted pecans and sweet spices.

Unlike other Tomintoul expressions, Tomintoul Peated is distilled from peated malted barley, giving it a distinctive smoky flavour. Aged in excellent American bourbon oak casks, Tomintoul Peated retains the key characteristics of Tomintoul single malts: sweetness, fruity and approachable notes, enhanced by a subtle campfire smoke.

The Tomintoul distillery

The Tomintoul distillery was built in 1965 and acquired by Angus Dundee in 2000. Located in the Speyside region, Tomintoul is the fruit of the pure water of the Ballantruan spring and the fresh air of the Cairngorms National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The distillery is named after the village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Scottish Highlands.
